What is Alaska Airlines Baggage Policy?

Before you travel on Alaska Airlines flights, it’s essential to know the baggage policy. 

Carry-On Baggage

You are allowed to take one carry-on bag and one standard item, such as a briefcase, purse, or laptop computer. One of these items must be kept under the seat in front of you while you must put the other luggage in the overhead bin without any assistance. Your carry-on bag, including wheels and handles, should not measure more than 22” x 14” x 9” or the linear length of 45 inches. 

Checked Baggage

As per the airline’s policy, the standard baggage fee for your first checked bag with a maximum linear length of 62” is $30, while for the second bag, it is $40. If you are opting for third or more bags, a fee of $100 will be payable for each luggage and, which is subject to certain restrictions. 

Special Bags

Several sports equipment items, such as Bicycle, hockey stick, skateboards, and musical instruments, come under the category of special baggage, which may be accepted as checked, carry-on, or overweight/over-sized baggage and are subject to applicable fees. 

Please note items like battery-operated self-balancing devices, explosives, household items, and other hazardous materials are some of the prohibited items, which cannot be carried in the airplane.

What is Alaska Airlines’ Pet Policy?

Pet in the Cabin

  • You must be more than 18 years of age to travel with your pet and should not reserve an emergency exit row seat, bulkhead, or any other seat with an airbag safety belt. 
  • In the First Class Cabin, Alaska Airlines reservations allow only one pet carrier per flight while in the main cabin, a total of up to five per carriers per flight is permitted. 
  • Your pet must stay inside the container, including the tail and head, and it should be closed at all times in the boarding area and during the journey. 
  • Only dogs, cats, rabbits, and household birds are allowed to travel with you in the cabin. 
  • The container must have adequate air ventilation and should be free of tears, cracks, or breaks.
  • To travel with your pet in the cabin, you must make sure the linear length of your kennel should not be more than 50 inches, and it should measure not more than 17” x 11” x 7.5” if the container is hard-sided and 17” x 11” x 9.5” for soft-sided.

Pet in the Baggage and Cargo Compartments

There are some pets, such as dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, non-poisonous reptiles, and tropical fish, which may be considered to travel in the climate-controlled baggage and cargo compartments. Below are some rules and regulations:

  • Your dogs and cats must be weaned and must be at least eight weeks older. 
  • Only one live dog or cat, six months or older, may be transported in the same container. 
  • Only one live puppy, aged between eight weeks to 6 months and weighing over 20 lbs., can be considered to travel in the same kennel.
  • Not more than two live puppies or kittens, aged between 8 weeks to 6 months, with similar size, and weighing 20 lbs. or less each, will be transported in the same kennel. 
  • The airline accepts only accepts a pet and kennel whose combined weight should not be more than 150 lbs.
